Domestic Abuse Awareness, Inc. (DAA) is a non-profit domestic violence organization committed to raising public awareness and
educating a diverse society. Our mission is executed by confronting the public with photographic proof that domestic violence exists.
DAA, Inc. provides photographs of real people in real situations enduring, perpetrating, and surviving one of the most prevalent and ignored social dysfunctions – violence in the home. This body of work includes over six thousand photographs by photojournalist DONNA FERRATO. The archive is the only collection of authentic images documenting domestic violence
and it is the foundation upon which DAA, Inc. is built. THIS MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED VIA:
LIVING WITH THE ENEMY EXHIBITION Traveling exhibition of Donna
Ferrato's domestic violence work consisting of 47 framed and captioned
photographs. The goal of the exhibit is to educate the public and
enable domestic violence organizations to raise badly needed funds.
The exhibit has traveled to more than 500 venues, nationally and
internationally. The exhibit is available for rent. For booking
information, please contact abuseaware@gmail.com or call 212-226-8901. VIEW PAST EXHIBITS
LECTURES Donna Ferrato has lectured around the world about her experiences as a photographer who documents
domestic violence. A multimedia experience including photographs, video, and music, Ferrato's lectures encourage a deep look into the problem while stressing the importance of standing up against abuse. Ferrato lectures independently and/or with one of her
subjects as a guest lecturer.
CAMPAIGNS DAA's photographs have contributed to the radicalization of community awareness by hundreds of victim's rights groups through posters, billboards, TV, video and Internet campaigns. The use of DAA's photographs has enabled domestic violence groups to create consciousness-raising materials that motivate the media to better report on the occurrence of family violence.
SLIDESHOWS DAA provides an educational slide show illustrating domestic abuse through images of battered women, their children and their abusers in many situations. The slide show is used by teachers, judges, lawyers, family courts, hospitals, schools and universities to portray the impact of domestic violence.
EVENTS Utilizing a diverse and comprehensive network of organizations and individuals involved in all aspects of domestic violence prevention, shelter, protection, rehabilitation, medical and psychological care, DAA provides and creates events for communication, discussion, and resolution.
